How many classes must a student attend to reach 75% attendance?
Enter the classes held and attended, and the tool shows the attendance percentage, how many classes in a row bring it to 75% and what condonation or medical leave would change.

Count the working days or the classes, whichever your school uses.
Use the same unit as above. A half day can be counted as a full day in or out; keep it consistent.
Until the end of the term or the date the percentage is checked.
75 is the commonly cited requirement for board-exam eligibility. Change it if your board or school says otherwise.
Some schools leave these out of the classes held. The tool shows both ways.

How to read this
- "Attend in a row" is how many of the next classes you must attend, without missing any, to reach the bar. It assumes those classes are held.
- "Can still miss" is the most classes you can miss out of the classes still to be held and still reach the bar by the end.
- Percentages are rounded down: 74.99% is not 75%.

How to calculate attendance and the classes needed for 75%
Enter classes held and attended
Type how many classes (or working days) have been held so far and how many the student attended, in the same unit.
Add what is still to come
Optionally enter the classes still to be held, so the tool can say how many the student can still miss.
Set the bar and any relief
Keep 75% or change it. Add absences backed by a medical certificate, and tick the condonation scenarios you want to see.
Read the table
Each row shows the attendance against that bar, the classes to attend in a row to reach it and how many can still be missed.
How is attendance percentage calculated?
Attendance % = classes attended ÷ classes held × 100. The tool rounds down, so 74.99% never shows as 75%. To reach a bar, it solves for the number of further classes N, all attended and all held, so that (attended + N) ÷ (held + N) is at least the bar. At 75% this works out to N = 3 × held − 4 × attended, in whole classes: for 70 of 100, N = 300 − 280 = 20.
What is the 75% attendance rule?
A 75% minimum attendance is the commonly cited condition for sitting board examinations, and CBSE reportedly asked schools to enforce it strictly in a 2025 circular. Reports differ on how strictly it is applied and on what can be condoned, and our notes mark the rule pack as unverified. Check your board’s current circular and your school’s policy.
| Scenario | What changes | Who decides |
|---|---|---|
| No relief | The bar is the full minimum (75% unless you change it) | The board or school rule |
| Condonation up to N points | The bar is lowered by N percentage points, to show what a lower bar would mean | The school or board, usually against a document; no fixed limit is in our notes |
| Medical absences left out | Days backed by a medical certificate are removed from the classes held | The school’s policy: some leave such days out of the denominator and some count them as absent |
How many classes must I attend to get 75% attendance?
If you have attended A of H classes, you need N more classes in a row, all attended, where (A + N) ÷ (H + N) is at least 0.75. For 70 of 100 that is 20 classes. The tool does this for your numbers.
Can attendance below 75% be condoned?
Boards and schools can sometimes condone a shortfall, normally with a document such as a medical certificate. The limit and the approver are their decision and are not fixed in our notes, so ask your school or board.
Do medical leave days count as present?
It depends on the school’s policy. Some leave medical-leave days out of the classes held, which raises the percentage, and some count them as absent. The tool shows the first way as a scenario.
How many classes can I still miss and stay at 75%?
Enter the classes still to be held. The tool then reports the most classes you can miss out of those and still finish at the bar.
Does the calculator store my numbers?
No. It runs in your browser and nothing you type is sent to us. Only the optional walkthrough form sends the contact details you type there.
